Q: What do I need to know in case I have a car accident?

A: Most importantly, stay calm.

• Don’t move an injured person – unless they are in immediate danger and you are in a position to provide assistance.
• Don’t move your car unless it is impeding the flow of traffic and you are being told to do so.
• Don’t blame the accident on anyone – especially yourself. Calmly wait for an officer to arrive and calmly explain the situation to them.
• Be sure to exchange information between yourself and the other driver. Be sure to get the license plate number, the make and model of the car, the name of the driver and any passengers in the car, all the license information on the driver.
• It’s not a bad idea to have a disposable camera in your glove box so that you can take pictures from the scene of the accident (your cell phone may have a camera too).
